Anishinabe Design was formed in 2008 by Cheryl Lockstone, Citizen Potawatomi Nation, and her spouse, Barrett Williamson, Principal Architect of the firm. Anishinabe Design focuses on serving the needs of the Native American Community with a design process that provides culturally appropriate and quality design. It is a 51% majority Indian and woman-owned firm.

We believe that we should be good stewards of our planet. We approach our design opportunities in ways that are ecologically responsible and stay within budget constraints. Since our inception, Anishinabe Design has designed numerous projects working with 19 Tribal Governments throughout Oklahoma. Our team experience includes; New Construction & Renovations, Health Care Facilities, Education Facilities, Office Buildings, Historic Preservation, and Adaptive Reuse, Child Care Facilities, Community Centers, Fire Stations, Law Enforcement Facilities, Animal Welfare Facilities, Museum, Nature and Visitor Centers, Warehouse Facilities, Food Distribution Centers, Restaurants, Retail Centers.

Cheryl manages business development, business administration and handles relevant cultural issues between the stakeholders and the design team. Cheryl facilitates cultural visioning workshops with Tribal Elders and stakeholders and is actively involved in developing thematic design elements for projects, in conjunction with the architects and designers, through cultural and historical research. As a former “full-time” Native artist, she has a vast network of Native American artists with whom she collaborates with on special projects.
